Without a cage this can be a serious problem in the event of a rollover. King6fab has developed a 100 bolt in 4 point racing harness bar specifically for the 2nd gen mx6. Bolt in design allows the use of existing seat belt bolt locations and existing hardware. To minimize shoulder belt length the belts should mount to a rollcage bar almost directly behind the driver s seat and approximately level with his or her shoulder blades or slightly higher.

The sfi 16 1 harness has a 3 pull down individual floor mount shoulder harnesses that will bolt into the floor or bolt or wrap to the roll bar running across just above the floor. Utilizing a 4 point mounting design it offers additional structural rigidity and strength. This leaves either mounting the system to a roll bar. Mounting directly behind the seats or to any position greater than 45 downwards is considered unsafe.

A 4 point harness or any harness for that matter is designed to do one thing and one thing only keep you in the seat. Only one bar of the three bar adjuster is showing and it is adjacent to the harness bar. We ll go into more detail in the next question. The seat and harness will keep you upright while the roof comes down. The harness bar keeps both occupants securely in place while autocrossing drag or road racing.

Another problem i see all too often is the improper mounting of the harness belt. The 3 lap belts are pull down to tighten and bolt in. We offer many of our harness components and hardware along with other harness accessories to be purchased ala cart including floor mounting hardware kits. Three bar adjuster is wrapped and positioned directly against the harness bar cage or mounting hardware.

The other issue is that a four point system will not allow your head to move if the roof collapses without a roll cage. I see a lot of people mounting the harness on a harness bar but it sits lower than an average persons shoulder line basically pulling from below.
